The Ceiling of My House

Lost in my day, between work and thoughts that overwhelm my mind, even if asked what I am doing, I do not know. My mind tires me.

The ceiling of my house mirrors me completely at night. I stare at it without speaking, and it does not speak to me either. We agree on one thing: silence, nothing more. I think—could it be thinking like me? I cannot imagine it. Does it truly listen to me? Perhaps it watches me.

My ceiling has become my beloved. I merely look at it. Then I continue to gaze until my eyes relax, and sleep aids me. I cannot imagine that I am sleeping… perhaps I am moving into my own world. I make friends there as I please, and I traverse it however I want. Even my beloved, I imagine her as I wish.

In my world, I am the king… then the blackness of night vanishes, and I open my eyes to my ceiling. I see it frowning in its place, choosing silence between it and me, a blinding whiteness. Perhaps it befriends my solitude, and I do not even know.

On my ceiling, I notice a spider web, beautiful in its decoration. I know it considers me its companion in the room, for the ceiling itself holds us, assures our freedom, life, and its chill.

The spider weaves to hunt. Beautiful is the way it works on its prey, with precision and craftsmanship, feeding on its future while forgetting its past. Evil in the mosquito’s eyes, yet beautiful in its own. The ceiling witnesses my silence and the spider’s silence. We all work without words—or perhaps we have forgotten our identity and how to speak. We do not master the art of language; rather, silence is our flame.

But after our friendship, I no longer found that spider. It betrayed our agreement to work in silence and not abandon one another. In a moment, I saw my ceiling’s whiteness detach and fade. Ah, the spider no longer brings me joy, and the ceiling no longer stays silent. Each moment, something of its whiteness falls upon me, disturbing me. Perhaps??? It is a sign that it wants to reveal its feelings—or perhaps it has grown tired of silence…

But I, my companion, am accustomed to silence, so I ask your

 forgiveness…

House of Arkolas

What are you doing?

M… M… Who are you—

Or are you asking me who I am? You are in my house—

Your house?? I came to the forest… and the forest belongs to everyone.

(laughs)

It belongs to whom? Scum like you come to this forest to stroll. Leave my house; you humans think everything in life belongs to you.

The young man woke from his fainting spell after collapsing from exhaustion. He wondered who had been speaking to him—was it strange, or just a dream?

Since his feet first touched this forest, he had felt someone watching him, perhaps because he was alone and imagined he was not.

He continued along the path until he came across an ornate well, beautiful in appearance. He approached cautiously…

“See? I told you to leave my forest.”

The youth looked left and right but saw nothing. What is this sound?

Youth: Show yourself, for courage is not in hiding. Show yourself… even if you are a demon, the darkness in my heart has room for all of you. Show yourself!

Then he took out a small jar containing ashes, poured it into the well, and wept, chanting: “Here, I have burned your corpse and cast what remains of you here. Sleep in peace, O—”

The voice’s owner appeared, advancing toward the youth. Words could not describe his body, yet the eerie figure had a mole beside his nose, like a mark.

Voice: Aren’t you afraid, young man?

Youth: I am afraid of you.

(The youth laughs.)

The Seventh Gate

 Knocking After Midnight

A knock.

No answer.

She continued reading her book, which told the story of a man who entered an abandoned house, until she reached a strange sentence:

"Everything you search for is here, but every secret has its price."

She wondered about that sentence.

Indeed, secrets are never bought except at a high cost… Yet she paid it no attention. The whole world is full of secrets.

“Did you run away from me?” (a laughing voice)

“Who…? Answer…!”

No reply, as usual—only the knocking on the door. She thought she was hallucinating. As always, she imagined herself a queen seated upon the throne of the world. Of course, we all think of ourselves as kings.

She stood up from her wooden chair leaning against the wall and walked to her wardrobe to change her clothes. It was time for artificial dreams, to continue her dream of the final door to possessing the world.

“Here you are… come, and I will give you the keys to your world.”

She turned and saw a shadow in the shape of a man. Nothing about him attracted attention except his crimson eyes.

“Who are you?”

“Me? Your world.”

“My world…?”

(She laughed hysterically.)

“My world does not allow impostors like you to enter.”

“I am the real one. You have always dreamed of me and called me by many names, so I came to you. Here I am now. Ask for whatever you wish.”

“Even if you were an angel, my wishes are many.”

(He laughed loudly.)

“Your wishes? You own nothing but your grandfather’s book that you keep reading. Have you forgotten? You are the one who created me within you. You are the one who wanted this.”

She fell silent for a moment, then said:

“I ask you only for someone I can trust with my life.”

“No.”

“Why? Is that such a difficult request?”

“No. But you have not entrusted even your own soul. Should I send you someone you will torment and then leave?”

“Me? You do not know my soul.”

“Your soul is imprisoned. Set it free, and then I will bring you the one you desire.”

She cried until her body trembled, and she surrendered herself to fate, hoping that life might change for her… so that she might finally live for something.
